The Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway expansion is moving forward as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invites tenders for widening key sections of NH-65. The project is aimed at improving road capacity and strengthening connectivity between Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam.
181.3-Km Hyderabad-Nandigama Stretch to Get Six Lanes
NHAI has invited tenders for widening the 181.3-km stretch from Malkapur near Hyderabad to Nandigama from four lanes to six lanes. The civil works are estimated to cost ₹6,792.52 crore and will also include service roads along the corridor.
The route covers important locations including Choutuppal, Chityala, Narketpally, Nakrekal, Suryapet, Kodad, Nawabpet and Nandigama, strengthening connectivity for towns along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada corridor.
Underpasses and Road Infrastructure Planned
The Hyderabad-Nandigama highway expansion will include 60 vehicular underpasses and 10 animal underpasses. These infrastructure additions are planned to improve local connectivity and provide safer crossings along the upgraded highway.
The package will be executed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.
Vijayawada-Machilipatnam Section Also Set for Expansion
Further east, around 45.6 km from the Vijayawada outskirts towards Machilipatnam is proposed for six-laning under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Together, the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam section covers approximately 59 km.
Boost to Regional Connectivity
The proposed NH-65 expansion is expected to increase highway capacity and strengthen connectivity between Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam. The project could also improve access to key towns and support smoother movement along the Hyderabad-Andhra Pradesh corridor.
