Hyderabad’s 81-Km Radial Road-2 Project Set to Boost Regional Connectivity

Hyderabad Radial Road-2

Hyderabad is set to further strengthen its regional road infrastructure with the development of Radial Road-2 (RR-2), an 81.15-km greenfield expressway that will improve connectivity between Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), emerging growth areas and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR).

The Hyderabad Radial Road-2 project will connect the ORR at Kothwalguda/Budwel with NH-167N near Nacharam in Kodangal constituency. Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) is taking up the project, which has an estimated cost of more than ₹3,295 crore.

Three Packages Planned for Radial Road-2

The 81.15-km RR-2 project will cover three major packages:

  • Budwel-Shabad
  • Shabad-Gudur
  • Gudur-Nacharam

The alignment will pass through parts of Rangareddy, Vikarabad and Narayanpet districts. As a result, the corridor will create an additional high-capacity road connection between Hyderabad’s peripheral areas and regional growth centres.

Future-Ready Road Infrastructure

One notable feature of the RR-2 Hyderabad project is its depressed central median. The project includes this provision to accommodate a potential future Metro corridor. Therefore, the provision could help integrate future mass-transit infrastructure with Hyderabad’s expanding road network.

Boost to Freight and Industrial Connectivity

The proposed Radial Road-2 will improve the movement of freight and industrial traffic around Hyderabad. In addition, the alternative route for heavy vehicles could reduce dependence on major roads within the city and improve regional traffic distribution.

The project will also provide stronger connectivity to industrial corridors, emerging development zones and peripheral urban areas. This improved access can support the expansion of economic activity beyond Hyderabad’s core.

Connecting ORR with the Proposed RRR

RR-2 will also play an important role in connecting Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) network. Consequently, these connections can improve access between different parts of the metropolitan region and facilitate smoother movement of goods and people.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad continues to expand toward its peripheral regions. Projects such as Radial Road-2 can therefore improve regional connectivity, support planned urban growth and strengthen links between residential, commercial and industrial areas.

How RR-2 Will Support Hyderabad’s Growth

The 81.15-km Radial Road-2 project will support Hyderabad’s growth by improving connectivity between the city’s peripheral areas, industrial zones and regional growth centres. Better road access can facilitate the movement of goods and people. It can also encourage new commercial and industrial developments along the corridor, reduce pressure on existing city roads and support planned urban expansion.

Furthermore, the future Metro corridor can strengthen public transport connectivity. This can help Hyderabad develop a more integrated and well-connected regional infrastructure network.
